Quake (shareware)

id Software, 1996 · First-person shooter

Episode one, Dimension of the Doomed, from id's 1.06 shareware archive, unpacked in the page; played by the X11 build of Quake's GPL source.

Arguments

+host_framerate 0.0138 keeps the world at real speed; `+map e1m1` drops straight into the first level (the shareware episode is e1m1 to e1m8, and start). The mouse needs nothing on X11.

They go in this page's address, so a link to it starts the program the same way.

PRISM's log
What PRISM says while it runs the program shows here once it is playing.

It needs a keyboard, and most games take the mouse too.

⚠️ Licence

Quake's shareware licence forbids showing its screens (sections 3 and 4: "a screen display or a screenshot"), so this page shows the game's name, not a picture of it. Playing it here is the visitor running their copy, which the licence allows.
